Extended Review- Fabulous Stay!
I going to put as much information as possible into this review. If you want the summary just scroll down to the specific section. The Trip: Coming from Canada I have done this drive many times. This time we covered the distance from Toronto to the island in roughly 15 hours. While most people prefer to fly we enjoy the trip through the mountains. A great way to save some money so that you can spend some more on the fun there is to be had on the island. Resort Rentals of Hilton Head Island: I have booked through this organization before and would recommend them. The one thing I would suggest is to correspond with them directly by phone. The times I emailed and got a response were sporadic. Regardless, on arrival even after hours we were able to pick up our villa package in their easy to access lock box quickly and were at the villa 5 minutes later. The instructions were clear and the Villa was nicely cleaned and supplied when we arrived. The Villa: The villa is quite beautiful. It looks out of the sixth hole of one of the shipyard golf courses. Incredibly well stocked by the cleaning staff you can expect to find sheets towels and some starter supplies such as dish soap, laundry soap, toilet paper and more. PACKING NOTE: This is not a trip you need overpack for. With myself my husband and my son we took one suitcase and probably had twice as much clothing as we needed. No need to pack towels or sheets and with the laundry facilities it's quite easy to do a load in the middle of the week. If you're flying down to save yourself the extra cost. Anything else you find you're missing can easily be bought on the island. Kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms are all clean. Living room is quite spacious with the large TV. Two additional TVs are available in the master and spare bedrooms. Lots of seating space both for lounging and for eating. A beautiful patio and all the dishes, glassware and cooking supplies you need are all here. My only complaint (if you can call it that) is the current state of the master bathroom. While a goodly size it is in need of some minor touch ups of the grout, tile and shower curtain which does have a tendency to fall on your head if you put anything on it. It looks like it is a little outdated and no one needs a mirror in the shower with all the restaurants on the island ?? Certainly not enough to take away from this place. We just did most of our showering in the spare bedroom bathroom which is amazing. The colonnade complex in shipyards is a beautiful location, a five minute bike ride to the beach, a 10 minute bike ride to the Piggly Wiggly grocery store and centrally located on the island itself. Take a bike ride down to Coligny Plaza and shop, eat and continue your adventures by biking on the beach. NOTE: Booking bikes is a MUST!! There are quite a few bike rental places on the island. We booked through Billy Bicycle and rented three bikes for one week complete with locks and baskets for $85 American. There is no better way to explore the island and there are plenty of bike paths so no worries with little ones on the roads. Things to do: Let's preface this by saying that I assume you aren't living in a cave and know this is one of the best places in the U.S. to golf! Take your pic...all courses are amazing. In addition though I would highly recommend mini golf at Pirates Island, shopping at the Tanger 1&2 outlets, biking everywhere, Coligny Plaza, THE BEACH, Salty Dog Cafe at the South Beach Marina, Harbor town, and the Sea Pines Forest reserve. Do these last 3 together on the same day as you have to pay for entrance into Sea Pines. And don't forget a day trip to Savannah!! Only 45 minutes away and worth the trip. Summary: I have been coming to Hilton head since I was 11 years old. Now my son is 12 and he loves this place just as much as we do. There is no end to the things you can do and the only problem I had with this trip is that we only stayed for a week! If you would like any more information please feel free to email me directly and enjoy your stay.
