During the months of May – August on Hilton Head Island, female loggerhead sea turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. The young hatch at night from July – October and immediately head for the sea. Artificial lights that shine onto the beach can cause them to walk toward these lights instead of the ocean. As this is an endangered species, the Town of Hilton Head Island requires all properties that have exterior and interior lights that are visible from the beach to be turned off by 10:00 pm from May thru October. It is also against the law to disturb the turtle’s nest or endanger the turtle in any way. Failure to follow these rules may result in a fine.
Thermostats should be set between 73 and 75 degrees and on “Auto”. Lowering the settings will cause the HVAC equipment to freeze up. Please make sure that all the doors and windows are closed while operating the AC. Give the property a few hours to cool down when arriving as cleaners and inspectors have been in and out.
Private pools are cleaned weekly. In addition, there is a skimmer provided for your convenience. During June, July, and August, pools are cleaned twice a week. There is an additional charge for extra cleaning. Some pools/Jacuzzis may be heated for an additional charge. Arrangements for pool heat must be made two weeks prior to arrival. Some villa complex pools are heated seasonally, however, this is at the discretion of the owner association boards and cannot be guaranteed.
Please keep the refrigerator settings at the middle settings. Constant opening and closing of the refrigerator door while getting soft drinks, etc will cause the interior temperature to rise. Many of the guests have found that a cooler, especially for drinks, has helped solve this problem.
In villas and homes, there is a designated trash area that is serviced twice a week. All trash should be bagged and trash cans should be left in the trash area. High rise complexes have a trash chute located on each floor, usually near the elevator. Please take trash out regularly to ensure that it gets picked up.
